Freelance Trumpet Player Ryan Resky was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Lindenhurst, New York . While in High School, Ryan performed as Principal Trumpet in the Gemini Youth Orchestra for 3 years and was also Principal Trumpet of both the All-County Orchestra and the All-State Symphonic Band during his senior year. Before graduating, Ryan received the highest musical honor in his school district for a graduating senior, the Arion Music Award. During High School, Ryan studied with both Murry Kahn and William Vacchiano. It was on Mr. Kahn's recommendation that he study with Mr. Vacchiano and due to this great team of teachers, Ryan accredits his acceptance to the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music.

Ryan went on to attend the New England Conservatory of Music, studying with Charles Schlueter Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony. On a summer break after his sophomore year, Ryan encountered some very serious problems in his playing. After around 1 month of solid practice, one morning approached his trumpet only to find out it was extremely painful to create a sound. After several attempts and phone calls to friends and former teachers, he came to realize at age 19, this might the demise of his playing career. Not willing to give up, Ryan sought out help from every angle including dentists to see if the problems were dental related. Ryan discovered that after years of playing on what was described as a slight overbite, his teeth were causing him pain from too much pressure and force. This combined comedy of errors had made Ryan put down the trumpet for nearly a month. In the new year, Ryan decided to take a break in the action and pursue work closer to home near New York City. In this time, Ryan was recommended to study with Professor Douglas Hedwig at Brooklyn College's Conservatory of Music.

Trumpet Player Ryan Resky attended Brooklyn College part time in between freelancing in New York City and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors in Trumpet Performance. While at Brooklyn College, Ryan performed as Principal Trumpet with the Conservatory Orchestra and was the Winner of the 2001 Concerto Competition performing the Hadyn Concerto. He also appeared as soloist with the orchestra on several other occasions performing the Hummel Concerto, Shostikovitch Concerto No. 1, Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto, and Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets. In addition to the orchestra, Ryan was 1st/Solo Trumpet with the brass ensemble as well as guest conductor, Principal Trumpet of the Wind Ensemble, lead trumpet/soloist with the jazz band and also soloist with the Marimba Quartet. (Ryan gets around!) In the summer of 2004, Ryan toured for 10 days with the Brooklyn College Brass Ensemble in Germany as part of the International Brass Symposium. He also enjoyed a final performance in Karlsruhe with the Musik Hochschule brass ensemble.

When Ryan was attending Brooklyn College and studying literature and performance with Professor Hedwig, he was recommended to seek out Jerome Callet for advice on his embouchure issues. Ryan explained his issues to Mr. Callet and he was assured that Mr. Callet could help him gain back his strength in his embouchure. By working with Jerome Callet, Ryan had received the needed insight into embouchure development and his own short comings in his performance that had possibly led him to this point. In no time at all, Ryan was able to perform the entire range on the instrument from Double Pedal C to Double High C with ease and little physical effort. He was invited that year to attend the 2001 International Trumpet Guild in Evansville, Indiana as a clinician and Artist Rep for Jerome Callet Trumpets and mouthpieces. At this International Trumpet Guild, Ryan forged many long standing relationships with trumpet players from around the world.

Freelance Trumpet Player Ryan Resky's musical career has led him to many other exciting performances traveling the country performing as a bugler at 20 different racetracks including Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack, where he has been the assistant bugler since 2005. He has performed at 2 Belmont Stakes as well as the Breeders Cup at Belmont Park as well as the Maryland Million at Laurel Park and many other major racing events. While substituting at Aqueduct in 2006, Mr. Resky was honored in an interview for a FOX Sports segment, Inside Racing: A Closer Look. It's one of the many perks of acting as the bugler for NYRA, you are asked for photos and interviews all the time by fans and even famous actors or even local celebrities. One such time came when I was asked to perform at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere of The First Saturday in May.

In addition, Ryan has also performed with One World Symphony as Principal Trumpet and soloist, the Staten Island Symphony, The Brooklyn Symphony, Metro Chamber Orchestra, LIU Brass Ensemble, the Imperial Brass and many other groups. Ryan continues to perform chamber music throughout the metropolitan area as a soloist and leader of his brass quartet the Millennium Brass.

Trumpet Player Ryan Resky's advice on practicing the trumpet and developing includes correct breathing and the embouchure basics of apeture and apeture control. Ryan has studied yoga breathing and saw what Maynard Ferguson was referring to in the book, "The Hindu-Yogi Science of Breath" by Yogi Ramacharaka. Ryan learned a great deal about the complete yoga breath in a private trumpet lesson with Roger Ingram. Ryan also subscribes by the BERP and the Stamp Trumpet Method book. Ryan states, "When you are able to produce a controlled buzz, it is much easier to produce a controlled sound. I reference these ideas on the BERP to the exercises of Stamp which I use as warm-up exercises. I also recently found Warburton's P.E.T.E. and find it to be a very valuable tool in my embouchure arsenal. It helps me workout the muscles and prepare them for the day's practice schedule as well as weekly performances. I find it important to keep my mind fresh with different kinds of playing everyday, from big bad charts, quintet repertoire, etudes and other repertoire I might encounter during the week. If I don't have specific gigs in which to prepare, this is the best way to keep sharp: which brings me to an important point that in order to successfully freelance, you must be able to sightread! I do this most of the time in my work. Even if I'm familiar with the genre or even know the tunes, I probably won't have seen the charts before. I believe this skill has kept me employed for all these years."

Trumpet Player Ryan Resky's choice in equipment is a vintage 1975 Claude Gordon Benge Bb Trumpet that was recommended to him by friend and trumpet great Dave Trigg as well as a Selmer Paris Piccolo Trumpet and a Yamaha Flugelhorn. Ryan uses a custom Marcinkiewicz mouthpiece crafted for his commercial work, which is a copy of a mouthpiece made for Dave Trigg (described as an Ingram Rim, Shallower Shew 1 cup, Candoli Backbore and 28 drill). For classical work, Ryan uses a Warburton 5M top/6 Backbore on his Bb, a 6S Top/7 Backbore for his piccolo trumpet, a Marcinkiewicz and Yamaha Bobby Shew model for his Flugelhorn (depending on musical styles) and a Marcinkiewicz Ian McDougall model on his Trombone. In addition, Ryan uses and endorses Ultra Pure Valve Oil and Tuning Slide Lube, Chopsaver Lip Ointment, Shure 98H Beta Wireless Microphone, the Soundback 2.0 Acoustic Monitor, Warburton P.E.T.E. as well as Torpedo Bags Trumpet Cases.

"Ryan Resky is one of the most talented trumpeters on the free-lance music scene today. He can cover many styles of music comfortably, and is well respected by his peers."

- Mike Ponella, Lead Trumpet for Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band
